Just some random thoughts

By Kirk Boswell

Those of you reading this who know me have often heard me say that I have a very hard time falling asleep at night. I know the reason for this is because my mind is still going a 100 miles per hour. It's very difficult for me to just "shut if off" if you will. As I laid tossing and turning last night, so many things were going through my mind, it was almost unbearable. So today I'm going to share some of them with you. I will warn you that I'm not going anywhere in particular with this article, it's just me venting. I am however, going to touch on a few of things I find very disturbing regarding the church and this generation we live in. Soooo...fasten your seat belts, this could be a bumpy ride.
I'm going to start with abortion, and how this young generation apparently views this abomination. An unnamed  girl likes this unnamed boy. After a couple of weeks of dating, the said young lady tells the said young man that she is pregnant with another young man's child. The young lady regularly attends Church, as does the young man she is with. Both profess to be Christians, and both claim to love the Lord. Moving on, the young lady decides to abort the unborn child via a morning after type of pill. Problem solved! This inconvenient situation is over and done with. The young man, who says he believes abortion is murder, is still willing to be with this girl, despite her by his own words being a murderer. The girls defense is that it wasn't his child, so what does it matter? She's apparently right in this generations eyes. It obviously didn't matter to her, and despite his words, to him either. This saddens me to no end. Church going teens, and they view life as nothing, yet profess Christ. Who has failed them? The parents? the Church? Both? The answer is probably both. But hey, what do I know?
Another thing that keeps me awake at night is politics and the church's involvement there in. I posted an article a few days ago written by Rick Frueh about the mid term election. Oh how easily we become caught up in the rat race of this world! We blame the President for all our woes. We say that now the conservatives will right the ship. We put our hope in corrupt politicians. They've all had their chance. Democrats and Republicans. The only thing that changes are the faces. Corruption, greed, back room deals, and empty promise after promise of how things will be better now. Oh really? A country that has aborted over 50 million babies since Roe v Wade....A country that imports more illegal drugs than all other countries combined.....A country that is the world's largest exporter of pornography.....A country that has embraced homosexuality as not only normal, but a desired lifestyle. Could it possibly be that God is bringing judgement apun us? Then the preachers cry that the church must take the country back again! What church? The same ones that the young couple mentioned above attend? The church is a mess in this country. Baptists and Methodists argue about submersion vs sprinkling, the Presbyterians are split on gay issues, the Episcopals have gay bishops, the Catholics don't even know who to pray to(also sex scandals), and the Pentecostals....Well, many (not all) Pentecostals are so caught up seeking a "move" or "sign" they throw all discernment out the window. Then you have the man centered preachings of the Joel Osteen's and Rick Warren's. My point is, the church can't agree on anything really. Unless it's financing huge buildings and sacrificing the Word to get more goats in the door.
Then we have the cluelessness of this generation. The Bible has given us the signs to look for when Christ's return is near. They are all around us everyday, but no one seems to notice. Living it up, just as in the days of Noah. Sin and wickedness everywhere you turn. Good being called evil and evil now being called good. Everyone so busy in their own selfish little worlds...heaping up treasures here on earth. Blind to prophecy happening all around them. Is it any surprise Jesus said He will come like a thief in the night? Who's looking for Him? Even professing Christians say things have always been this way. I don't know about you, but I'm scared. Why? Because I know His return is immanent and I want to be ready. I fear that I am only fooling myself sometimes. I fear for my family and children who seem to be so unreceptive to the message of the cross. I'm terrified at the thought of the words "Depart from Me". I know Christ hasn't given us a spirit of fear, but it terrifies me to think that I only "thought" I was saved.
These are truly perilous times we live in. Temptations and lies abound. False teachers and demonic spirits have infiltrated the church. People swaying with every wind of doctrine, lacking discernment and too lazy to study on their own. Young people being entertained instead of discipled. How much longer can this go on?
2 Timothy 3
Perilous Times and Perilous Men
1 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power
Is this scripture not a perfect picture of the world we live in?
May the Lord bless you all greatly, and keep looking up, for our redemption is near.
